Data Loss Profiler

Captures and Classifies Outbound Data for Forensic Purposes

The Reconnex Data Loss Profiler is a hardware appliance that is deployed off a TAP or SPAN port at the network gateway. The appliance captures and classifies all outbound SMTP and Webmail communications, indexing and storing the data for later forensic examination. The vendor targets the product to organizations looking to tune or investigate the need for a full data leak prevention platform, as well as those with the need to analyze the effectiveness of existing DLP infrastructure. With Data Loss Profiler an organization is able to see the data being sent from their network and who sent it.

The product is in fact the vendor's iGuard appliance, but with only the ability to capture, classify, and store data, as well as make that data available for forensic searches. It classifies all content sent via SMTP/Webmail communications, and provides a searching and reporting interface with the ability to locate content based on keywords, E-mail addresses, domains, timestamps, content types, templates, concepts, and more. Over 300 document types are recognized and can be classified by the platform; and the product ships with pre-built concepts including acceptable use, compliance, and intellectual property.

The appliance is deployed off of a SPAN or TAP port at the network gateway, and requires no desktop or server agents. It can be upgraded to a full iGuard appliance (with all of the vendor's DLP platform functionality, see the related link below), via a software key.

Two flavors of the appliance are available (actually two versions of the iGuard), including the 1U 1650, with 4 drive bays and a retention capacity of 500 GB; and the 3U 3650, with 16 drive bays, a retention capacity of 6 TB, and hot-swappable fans and power supplies. Both ship with dual 10/100/1000 management interfaces and the user's choice of dual 10/100/1000 or dual Gig Fiber capture interfaces.

The product is available for a seven day free trial; after which interested organizations may purchase the appliance for $19,995.
