Secure Computing's Secure Web (formerly Webwasher) platform is deployed at the Web gateway and provides anti-spam, anti-virus, and content filtering protection for the organization by analyzing both inbound and outbound traffic flows. The platform is able to examine HTTP, HTTPS (SSL), FTP, and IM traffic (depending on activated modules) and is offered in both software and pre-loaded, hardened (Linux-based) appliances.
product submission by EITPlanet StaffKey functions available in the Secure Web platform include: - URL Filtering: Supporting the creation of site access policies based on a site categorization database (can be incrementally updated automatically as often as hourly) currently consisting of 91 categories of Web sites. A key feature of the filtering function is the integration of the vendor's TrustedSource technology, which seeks to examine the actual activities of individual Web sites and classify those sites via a "Reputation Score." - Anti-Virus protection, through the examination of HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP traffic. The Anti-Virus module integrates--via ICAP--with up to two 3rd party scanners to provide the actual A/V scanning, and features "PreScan Filtering," i.e., the ability of the product to apply its own content filters (see the Anti-Malware engine below) to the traffic before sending it to be scanned by the external engines. - Anti-Malware: The Anti-Malware engine seeks to block both known and unknown malicious software that travels through Web traffic. Features of the Anti-Malware engine include proactive filters, which seek to block zero-day attacks via behavioral analysis, authentication of active code (examination of digital signatures), and neutralization of suspicious scripts; signature-based blocking for known malware; and content filtering, rules-based filters for both inbound and outbound traffic, with support for archive files, MS Office documents, AcrtiveX, etc. - SSL Scanner: Via the product's ability to act as an HTTPS proxy - IM Filter: Detects, reports, and selectively blocks both P2P and IM usage - Secure Web Cache (also known as SecureCache), which integrates with the scanning and filtering capabilities of the anti-virus module such that the result of the virus signature scan is cached along with the object. In this way, when signatures are updated the product needn't invalidate (flush) the cache entry; but instead only rescan it with the new sigs. - Secure Web Reporter, the newest module in the platform. Secure Web Reporter leverages the information gathered by Secure Web and presents both real-time and historical views into Web events and activities, including data about Web surfing, malware detections, etc. Available in both Premium and Basic versions, the Premium versions adds features including delegated reporting and custom log processing, as well as enhanced reporting capabilities including the ability to combine multiple queries into a single report or dashboard view. Secure Web is available as a software offering for Windows, Linux, or Solaris; and is additionally available as a pre-loaded, hardened (Linux-based) appliance. Four appliances are currently available; ranging from the single CPU WW 500E with dual GigE ports, to the 2U WW 2900E with dual quad-core processors, 4 GigE ports, and redundant power supplies. The product ships with SSL Scanner, Secure Web Cache, proxy, authentication, basic Secure Web Reporter, and selected filters activated. Additional capabilities described above are available via separate subscription-based purchases. Secure Web Reporter Premium is available now; with the Basic version expected later in August, 2008.
